Company Overview

Habitat for Humanity of Waukesha County (HFHWC) is a Christian-based non-profit organization dedicated to building decent, affordable homes in partnership with very low-income families.

How The Program Works
Habitat for Humanity of Waukesha County is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit charitable organization seeking to alleviate the shortage of quality affordable housing in Waukesha County. For many families in Waukesha County, having a place to call home is impossible. Skyrocketing rent and home prices make this dream too far out of reach. According to 2003 American Community Survey, the median monthly housing costs for mortgaged owners was $1,532, and renters $811. The average cost to build a home in 2005 was $284,000.

Through volunteer labor and tax-deductible donations of money, land, and materials, Habitat for Humanity of Waukesha County builds or rehabilitates simple, decent houses. Families are selected based on their level of need, willingness to work, acceptance of responsibilities and ability to repay mortgage. Families must complete at lease 250 hours of sweat equity and an additional 100 hours of homeowner education classes. Qualified families purchase Habitat homes with zero-interest mortgage, enabling them to own their home.
