The Department of Corrections, the largest department in State government with more than 10,000 employees, has responsibility for administering the complex correctional system: State prisons, community-based corrections (including probation and parole), and juvenile corrections programs. Corrections employees are working throughout Wisconsin in probation and parole offices, community-corrections centers and camps, adult prisons and juvenile institutions, and the Madison central office. Each day, these employees perform the tasks necessary to provide the many services and programs offered to offenders. By their dedicated service, our employees are helping the Department to fulfill its mission: protecting the public while carrying out the constructive management of all offenders placed in our charge. It takes many employees, working together, to provide the educational programs, job training, and clinical and medical treatment that will help rehabilitate offenders and aid their reintegration into society. While providing humane and effective treatment of offenders, Corrections employees also strive to be responsive and sensitive to victims and their families. By working together toward reducing criminal behavior and promoting life-style changes, the Department hopes to restore a sense of safety to victims of crime and to Wisconsin communities. As a corrections employee, you are part of a diverse and competent workforce, a workforce that includes many kinds of employees performing many functions: security, education, health services and clinical treatment, administrative support, food service, building and grounds maintenance.
