Job Description
POSITION OVERVIEW

The Formulation Scientist will work closely with the Senior or Principal Formulation Scientist/Formulations Manager and/or directly with clients to plan and support various pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, food, and industrial projects and will coordinate development, scale up and validation processing as necessary. The Formulation Scientist has extensive working knowledge of assembly, operation, and cleaning of Wurster fluidbed coating equipment and other processing equipment, development and preparation of coating solutions and other formulas, and various analytical tests and data critical to formulation and process development.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Plans and coordinates development, scale up and validation activities with minimal direction from the Senior Formulation Scientist or Formulations Manager.
  • Develops formulas for new products with direction from the Senior Formulation Scientist or Formulations Manager.
  • Uses knowledge of processing equipment to develop and troubleshoot manufacturing processes.
  • Interprets analytical and process data to further develop and optimize formulations and manufacturing processes.
  • Provides background knowledge of the project and process.
  • Assists the Quality Assurance Department in writing, editing, and obtaining document approval.
  • Collaborates with the Quality Control Department regarding testing and the coordination of timelimes for analytical testing and method validations to support project needs.
  • Works with the Supply Chain team to ensure material requirments for projects are fulfilled.
  • Interacts with Production planning personnel for commercial-scale projects.  Provides appropriate information for Production Project Overviews and operator training on new projects.
  • Prepares monthly billing as it pertains to assigned projects.
  • Works closely with the Senior or Principal Formulation Scientist and/or the Sales team to prepare written proposals.
  • Provides critical process details to ensure batch records are prepared correctly.
  • Composes and distributes protocols, summary reports, and process development reports.
  • Maintains current knowledge of the guidelines and regulations of the 21 CFR, ICH guidelines, and other regulatory bodies relevant to the food and harmaceutical industries.
  • Assists with training of new personnel as necessary.
  • Follows all CPI cGMP practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Follows all CPI safety practices, policies, and procedures.

EDUCATION/SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED
  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years experience, including analytical lab testing and processing or project management.
  • Minimum 2 years formulation development and/or project management experience preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of formulation development.
  • Working knowledge of regulations governing the pharmaceutical industry with a proven track record of cGMP compliance.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot processes and implement corrective actions.
  • Basic mathematical skills with the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and conversions.
  • Comprehensive written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good time management skills to complete assignments/projects in a timely manner with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Internet Explorer required.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with team members, co-workers, and/or clients.
  • Ability to lift objects weighing up to 55 lbs.
