Description

Develops and teaches concepts and strategies for a variety of courses. May require teaching courses at MATC campuses, business, community, other sites, and online during the day, evening, and/or weekend. Related duties include participation in department and advisory meetings, department and college functions, course and curriculum development in both traditional and non-traditional formats, online courses, staff development, conduct open labs (if/when necessary), student advising, student outcome assessment and quality review assessment and implementation, student organization involvement, recruitment and retention of students, and other duties as assigned. Required to keep current with the latest trends and technologies in discipline.

Under the supervision of the Dean of the Community Education Division or designee to teach basic Math courses levels 1-6, to teach GED classes in an accelerated GED program. Position require courses to be taught at such as the Social Development Commission (SDC), Literary Services, Dominican Center For Women and Journey House.

Desire outcome of these classes: Students are seeking a HSED ( High School Equivalency Diploma) or GED ( A certificate of General Education Development).
Grade Level Ranges: students are middle to secondary academic levels
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare for and deliver instruction and perform teaching-related activities.
  • Manage the classroom/laboratory.
  • Develop curriculum and monitor and revise as appropriate to maintain course effectiveness; assist in program evaluation.
  • Manage equipment, supplies and materials.
  • Assess student performance and advise students on academic issues.
  • Collaborate with the advisory committee in the program area.
  • Attend departmental and institutional meetings.
  • Promote the education/training program, participate in efforts to recruit and retain students, and participate in efforts to market MATC.
  • Support student organizations and activities.
  • Develop relationships with business and industry.
  • Complete program evaluation and follow-up.
  • Maintain certification, continue professional development and stay current in the field.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Only those who meet all of the base minimum requirements listed below will be considered.

Minimum Educational Requirements: Must possess at least ONE of the following educational requirements below.

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Mathematics, OR:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher with a minimum 30 credits in Mathematics (a maximum of eight (8) credits in Physics, Computer Science, Engineering, Stats, or finance will be recognized as part of the 30 total credits).

Minimum Experience Requirements: Must meet BOTH of the experience requirements listed below.

  • At least three (3) total years of teaching experience which includes at least one (1) year of teaching Math AND;
  • At least one (1) year/2,000 hours of non-teaching experience
Language Requirement: Fluent in English.

Essential Technology:
Email - Experience with an Email system (Gmail, Outlook)

Experience with or willingness to learn the following supportive technologies:
Online Information Management Systems - e.g. Self Service other online information management systems used for student advising, student programs, grading, class schedules and rosters
Blackboard Ultra - Experience with Blackboard Ultra or other web-based course - management systems
Technology-based Instruction - Experience with technology-based instructional delivery systems including SMART symposium, interactive touch screen monitors, LCD projectors, DVD players and/or other classroom technology
Emerging Technologies - Experience with emerging technologies (eg. social networking applications)
Supplemental Information

Start Date: This position supports the Community Education Division and is available to start in the fall semester (around August 18th, 2024)

Hours/Location: This position is up to a .5 FTE and the number of hours and shifts available will vary based on enrollment, department need, and course load.
Modality is IN-PERSON

Salary: Salary is listed to the midpoint of the salary range and is based on the 2023/2024 rates and are determined by years of experience credit and internal salary equity.
