Overview

Quartz is seeking a data subject matter expert to join our newly-created Clinical Informatics Team as a Senior Data Scientist. The Senior Data Scientist will be responsible for identifying, developing, and implementing tools and processes that enable key business insights and data-driven clinical leadership decisions. Through the design of simulations, models, proofs of concept and experiments, this role will build automated data products that enhance data access for internal stakeholders responsible for executing key business decisions and actions. This role will work as part of a team to consult with clinical leadership to understand and anticipate business data needs and recommend solutions to address them.

Responsibilities
  • Consult with leadership to understand business requirements and data needs; recommend solutions that address unexpressed and/or underlying needs
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in advanced data techniques including modeling, integration, visualization, mining, discovery, AI/ML, natural language processing, and solution design
  • Assemble data sets from disparate sources and analyze using appropriate quantitative methodologies, computations frameworks, and systems
  • Develop algorithms, predictive models, and create prototype systems, visualizations, and simulations that test and support key business decisions
    • Develop and deliver automated data products that offer actionable insights and accurate predictions
    • Optimize models to improve sensitivity and/or specificity for data observations and offer corrective action recommendations to improve the efficacy and/or efficiency of reports, processes, and/or controls
  • Present data-related findings at internal meetings with non-technical audiences and/or leadership teams to effectively influence strategy
  • Document and share processes and analyses consistent with organizational best practices, and ensuring compliance with security and internal controls
Qualifications
  • Advanced Degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or related discipline preferred; equivalent, relevant experience will be considered in lieu of education.
  • 6+ years of relevant experience in predictive data modeling (classification, regression, parameter tuning, optimization criteria, feature selection)
  • Experience in model testing and continuous monitoring of model performance
  • Experience working with large, relational data sets
  • Advance proficiency with query tools (SQL, SAS, Aginity, MedInsight, BusinessObjects, or Impact Intelligence)
  • Advance proficiency with business intelligence and visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau, QlikView, or Milliman MedInsight).
  • Professional healthcare and/or clinical analytics experience, specifically health plan experience, is preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of health insurance industry, with the ability to apply that knowledge to understand and advise on key business decisions; industry knowledge may include: market rules and regulations, reimbursement methodologies, claims payment systems, and/or industry standard codes and acronyms
  • Experience serving as an expert or lead on projects, contributing to the development of other analysts, or provide other examples that demonstrate leadership capabilities and acumen
  • Demonstrated skill with Excel (pivot tables, link workbooks, plug-ins, formulas, etc.)
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and ensure timely delivery of analyses and reports
  • Ability to be inquisitive, well-organized, and highly motivated to resolve issues with keen attention to detail
  • Ability to build effective, consultative business relationships and offer valuable insights and guidance to internal stakeholders and SMEs
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Applicants have the option to work full-time remotely, hybrid, or full-time from one of our offices in Madison, WI or Onalaska, WI. Technology, hardware and equipment will be provided by the company, but candidates must have access to high-speed, non-satellite Internet to successfully work remotely.
