Job Summary:

Oversees the day-to-day operations of Bucky's Varsity Meats, the retail meat store for the Meat Science & Animal Biologics Discovery program at UW-Madison. Training and leading student staff will be essential to this position.

This manager position will be focused on managing inventory of raw materials, retail products and other supplies. They will also be focused on managing supply orders, tracking income and expenses, and issuing invoices. They will also be involved in product development for new retail products and scheduling/managing the sensory lab operations. They will also ensure good customer relations and maintaining the store quality and integrity.

Responsibilities: Manages the daily operations and/or staff of a retail facility, ensuring a high level of customer service to attract and retain customers.
  • 20% Supervises, trains, and/or directs daily operations of staff and a retail facility to adhere to established standards
  • 25% Operates and monitors cash handling equipment and related functions; and performs routine financial management activities
  • 25% Audits and maintains retail inventory and completes orders for new products when necessary
  • 10% Provides, monitors, and evaluates customer service of retail staff and engages guests by providing information and resolving customer issues and concerns
  • 5% Perform routine and non-routine fabrication of fresh whole-muscle cuts and production of processed meats, both ready-to-cook and ready-to-eat.
  • 5% Leads and provides exceptional customer service behind our full-service butcher case including product recommendations, cooking preparation techniques, and helpful information about our animals and mission.
  • 5% Opening the store for morning coffee service and breakfast prep.
  • 5% Offer input and feedback into the implementation of new products, promotions, and events.

Qualifications:

Required
-ServSafe Food Preparation Manager Certificate
-2 years experience in retail/customer-facing environment
-2 years meat fabrication/processing and/or food production experience
-Experience with point of sale systems
-Experience with inventory systems and management of perishable products
-Good organization skills (Examples may include-Time Management, Communication, Setting Goals, Delegation, Working Under Pressure, Self-motivation, Analytical Thinking, Other relevant examples)
-Experience working with students

Work Schedule:

This position will be required to work 40 hours per week with the intended schedule of Monday through Friday, 7:30am - 4:30pm. Hours will be flexible in order to ensure operational needs are met, and some weekend work may be required.

Full Time: 100%

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.
