Job Summary:

University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Nursing is seeking a talented Financial Manager to join our team! Responsibilities: Guides financial and or accounting staff performing work in multiple finance functional areas and participates in day-to-day financial operations to ensure accuracy of financial transactions and reports, and/or supervises staff. Recommends and implements fiscal policies and advises on development of processes in support of efficient and compliant reporting.
  • 50% Plans, directs, and engages in financial and/or accounting operations for multiple areas; coordinates data management, budget preparation and management, and financial reporting efforts
  • 25% Identifies, verifies, and audits financial charges, credits, and authorizes payments
  • 10% Recommends, interprets, disseminates, and implements unit-focused fiscal policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with established rule, regulations and financial guidelines
  • 5% Participates in the development, maintenance, and monitoring of automated financial information systems
  • 5% Analyzes financial information and makes recommendations to unit leadership
  • 5% Serves as a subject matter expert to unit leadership regarding financial operations, status and reporting, and recommends process improvements
Tasks:
  • Attend campus financial management meetings.
  • Audit transactions for proper fund, account, program, project, etc. Initiate corrective action when necessary.
  • Communicate and clarify policies and rules for purchasing, accounting, travel, payments for services, payments to individuals, employee/employer relationships, academic support services, etc.
  • Ensure invoice payments are administered correctly and in a timely manner.
  • Manage financial aspects of scholarships. Advise on availability of funds.
  • Manage post-award activities for extramural and intramural. Serve as SoN representative to various agencies regarding post-award issues.
  • Manage program revenue accounts. Process journal entry transfers.
  • Monitor the School's purchasing card program.
  • Monitor, administer and approve transfers.
  • Prepare and review financial statements for academic, research, and administrative functions. Monitor and analyze expenditures and investigate budget variance.
  • Prepare regular budget reports for faculty and staff and provide input on resource allocation decisions.
  • Provide PIs with guidance on award terms, policies and procedures, and requirements. Work with RSP to resolve post-award issues.
  • Provide department-level review and approval of custodian funds.
  • Work on the summer session and service budgets, compile faculty payments, ensuring accurate funding sources in compliance with policy.

Qualifications:

Required
-Minimum 7 years' experience in finance, accounting or business services in a higher education setting.
-Minimum 5 years' experience with UW purchasing and e-Reimbursement processes.
-Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
-Ability to demonstrate initiative, proper judgement, and independent decision-making.
-Effective oral and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, team participation skills, problems solving techniques, and strong customer service skills.

Preferred
-Experience in managing student scholarships.
-Experience in managing post-award activities for extramural and intramural funding.

Full Time: 100%

This position requires most work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. The person in this position may request and be considered for a formal remote work agreement based on guidelines set forth by the School of Nursing, and/or may be provided with remote work flexibility as needed and approved by the supervisor.

Depending on Qualifications
The expected salary for this position starts at a rate of $63,800. Actual pay will depend on experience and qualifications. In addition to base pay, the employee in this position can expect to receive benefits such as generous vacation, holidays, and other paid time off, competitive insurances and savings accounts, and employer sponsored retirement benefits.
