The Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies is confronting global environmental challenges through interdisciplinary research, hands-on community-focused education, and public programs that foster environmental problem solving.
The Nelson Institute values and is committed to a liberal arts and professional education, built on the premise that complex environmental issues can best be understood through familiarity with diverse perspectives and integration of the natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities. Our environmental professional master of science programs are a critical part of the institute. We teach students to think critically, to apply their knowledge to solving environmental challenges, and to master technologies to help us reach better outcomes for the earth.
We are looking for a solutions-oriented, self-driven, and collaborative person to join the Environmental Professional Programs (EPP) team as our new EPP Specialist. Under the direction of the International and Professional Programs Director and working closely with the Assistant Director, the EPP Specialist's primary responsibilities will be to support administrative aspects for two professional MS programs in environmental conservation and environmental observation and informatics. The Specialist will also support student recruitment, communications and events planning; they will often be the first person that applicants interact with when they inquire about our MS programs. See tasks section for detailed descriptions. Strong organizational, interpersonal and writing skills are required to succeed in this position. A commitment to environmental conservation and higher education are also a priority. This is a partially remote position and whomever fills this position will have the opportunity to grow with our team and to take advantage of professional development opportunities that benefit our work and their goals. This position may also include occasional travel.
Our team works with professional graduate students from a wide variety of academic backgrounds and lived experiences, both domestic and international, and we strive to ensure that each student is welcomed and strongly supported as they pursue their academic and professional goals. Our new specialist must also share this commitment. The Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies is serious about elevating underrepresented voices, promoting anti-racism, and modeling inclusive excellence at UW-Madison. As the most interdisciplinary academic unit on campus, we believe the diverse perspectives and experiences of our community are key to innovation and shared success.
Diversity is a source of strength, creativity, and innovation for UW-Madison. We value the contributions of each person and respect the profound ways their identity, culture, background, experience, status, abilities, and opinion enrich the university community. We commit ourselves to the pursuit of excellence in teaching, research, outreach, and diversity as inextricably linked goals.
The University of Wisconsin-Madison fulfills its public mission by creating a welcoming and inclusive community for people from every background - people who as students, faculty, and staff serve Wisconsin and the world.
