Job Description

Job Purpose:

The Assistant Principal is an educational leader and administrator of their respective building and supports the vision of the district and building principal . As a member of the building leadership, they are responsible for building collective efficacy along with implementing and managing the policies, regulations, and procedures of the Board of Education. Achieving excellence that is strengthened through diversity requires the Assistant Principal to collaborate with and nurture all members of the school staff. Additionally, the Assistant Principal needs to communicate effectively with parents, members of the community, and colleagues within the District. Under the direction of the Principal, the Assistant Principal may have the responsibilities for planning, curriculum development, student achievement, program evaluation, extracurricular activities, personnel management, financial management, emergency procedures, resource scheduling, and facilities operations.

Duties and Responsibilities

Instructional Leadership
  • Communicates, models and promotes standards of expected performance.
  • Provides for management of instruction.
  • Provides leadership for positive educational change.
  • Provides for on-going staff development.
  • Provides effective curricular leadership.
  • Demonstrates effective skill in assisting with selection and assignment of school personnel. School Management
  • Provides for effective and efficient day-to-day operation of the school.
  • Promotes a school facility conducive to a positive learning experience.
  • Ensures efficient management of building level fiscal resources.
  • Promotes and maintains effective behavior systems in the school.
  • Supports implementation of a MLSS system.
  • Demonstrates effective communication skills.
  • Demonstrates effective decision making skills.
  • Demonstrates organizational skills.

Interpersonal Relationships
  • Demonstrates positive interpersonal relations with students, staff, administrators, and parents/community. Professional Responsibilities
  • Performs duties in accordance with district policies and procedures, state and federal laws.
  • Participates in professional growth activities.
  • Demonstrates motivation, self-discipline and stress management.

District Support
  • Demonstrates accuracy, thoroughness, and promptness in submitting reports, inventories, evaluations, and other information requested.
  • Observes, supports and enforces the regulations, policies, philosophy, and programs of the District and all applicable laws and regulations.

Relations to the Supervisor
  • Keeps the supervisor informed on operations, needs and problems in the department.
  • Accepts responsibilities and duties for the position.
  • Maintains the strictest confidence concerning personnel, students and operational concerns of the District.
  • Assumes other duties assigned by the immediate supervisor or designee.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • Holds or is eligible to obtain Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction 51 license - Principal (Code 5051-Principal).
  • At least four (4) years of experience in education, including three years of classroom teaching.

  • Bilingual (Spanish)
  • Demonstrated leadership and ability to work effectively with groups, individuals, and diverse communities.
  • Demonstrated skills in organizing ideas and presenting them with clarity and conciseness.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and evaluate curriculum and personnel performance effectively and efficiently. Demonstrated creative and imaginative approaches to problem solving and ability to make sound decisions.
  • Ability to facilitate stakeholder's involvement in shared decision making to build collective efficacy.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain student discipline and supervision of student activities.
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of Educator Effectiveness.

Working Conditions
  • Position is in an office with heat and air conditioning. Work will be performed primarily at an office desk.

Physical/Mental Requirements
Uses keyboard, mouse, or other alternative input device. Converses and is understood verbally and in written form. Works in a stationary position for up to 4 hours at a time. Organizes and prioritizes own work as well as the work of others, often multitasking. Frequently works long and irregular hours. Regularly operates a motor vehicle to attend meetings in various locations. Makes presentations, both formal and informal. Responsible for decisions that have a significant impact on their respective building.
