Job Summary:

Under the direction and supervision of the Finance Associate Director, this position serves as an essential team member for the School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH) Administration-Fiscal Affairs Transaction Team. This position will have responsibilities within the Transaction Team that involve campus guidelines, policies and procedures for travel reimbursement, procurement, and other accounting functions for SMPH division, departments, centers, institutes, and units.

This position will primarily review, approve, and advise on a variety of complex financial transactions. In addition, they will reconcile transactions, maintain financial records, and provide administrative processing support and customer service for staff and customers in an assigned program area to support program financial management. The incumbent will recommend controls and process improvements and troubleshoot complex financial errors. May be a lead or resource for others in the unit.

Responsibilities: Primarily reviews, approves, and advises on a variety of complex financial transactions. Reconciles transactions. Maintains financial records, provides administrative processing support, and provides customer service for staff and customers in an assigned program area to support program financial management. Recommends controls and process improvements and troubleshoots complex financial errors. May be a lead or resource for others in the unit.
  • 10% Monitors financial transactions and fund balances and generates and reconciles complex reports and statements in accordance with established rules and regulations
  • 20% Reviews and approves complex transactions and assigns funding codes in accordance with established rules, regulations, and policies
  • 5% Reallocates expenses to appropriate funding strings
  • 10% Drafts communications and reports and maintains organization of varied records to provide administrative support within a specified work unit
  • 20% Answers complex fiscal questions and provides information based on set materials and standards to various audiences
  • 20% Reviews transaction processing internal controls and recommends policies and procedures
  • 10% Serve as a unit liaison to leadership providing financial advice, recommendations, and financial status updates
  • 5% May train staff on financial processes and best practices

Education:

Preferred
Associate's Degree
Education or training in Accounting, Finance, or other Business related courses preferred

Qualifications:

Required:
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to write and communicate effectively
- Ability manage many detailed projects simultaneously under tight deadlines
- Demonstrated ability to develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with others, and maintain them over time
- Experience with Microsoft Office software, such as Excel and Word

Preferred:
- Working knowledge of WISER, UW Purchasing, and other UW financial systems
- Financial experience related to one or more of the following: transactional financial support, reconciliations, maintaining financial records
- Education or training in Accounting, Finance, or other Business related courses

Work Type:

Full Time: 100%

Fully remote work available, but not required. If the incumbent chooses to be fully remote, work will be performed at an offsite, non-campus work location. If the incumbent chooses to be partially remote, it is anticipated that some work will be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Appointment Type, Duration:

Terminal, 24 month appointment.
This position has the possibility to be extended or converted to an ongoing appointment based on need and/or funding

Salary:

Minimum $52,000 ANNUAL (12 months)
Depending on Qualifications
The starting salary for the position is $52,000 but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

Additional Information:

University sponsorship is not available for this position, including transfers of sponsorship. The selected applicant will be responsible for ensuring their continuous eligibility to work in the United States (i.e. a citizen or national of the United States, a lawful permanent resident, a foreign national authorized to work in the United States without the need of an employer sponsorship) on or before the effective date of appointment. This position is currently scheduled to end May 19, 2026 and will require eligibility to work until that time. UW-Madison is not an E-Verify employer, and therefore, is not eligible to employ F1-OPT STEM Extension participants. If you are selected for this position you must provide proof of work authorization and eligibility to work.
