Your new team

This position sits in our Chivas Brothers business. At Chivas Brothers, our 1,600-strong team across 27 sites is committed to upholding the heritage of Scotch and ensuring its sustainable future, as well as opening it up to new audiences across the globe.

The scope of Operations stretches from Procurement through conversion (distillation and maturation) and manufacturing (or bottling) to all the downstream Supply Chain activities until the final product is delivered. In addition, Operations play a very active role in Innovation, Talent Development and Operational Risk Management.

Our Production function encompasses everything from distillation, through to Maturation, Cask Drain & Fill and Blending.

Northern Operations is all our sites across the North of Scotland, this includes 12 Distilleries, Animal Feed and Bio-Plants, Heritage Sites, Bulk Warehousing Sites, Blending and Dispatch terminals, laboratory facility. The Engineering team are responsible for a wide range of engineering activities, from asset care to multi-disciplinary engineering projects.

Your unique contribution

The Team Leader will provide practical support to the Maintenance team and Maintenance Manager to help maintain sites and deliver planned and reactive maintenance.

You will have four main areas of responsibility:

  • People Leadership - to support the Maintenance Team and supervise their daily activities. You will support with training and development including the implementation of training and the use of company systems. You will also coordinate site cover and attendance for your team.
  • Maintenance - to be reactive to site breakdowns and assist with route cause analysis of those breakdowns as well as trending to support elimination of recurring issues. You will ensure routine maintenance is carried out to a high standard and assist with any issues that may be preventing or impeding works. Youi will also carry out workplace inspections and be included in the Engineering management on-call rota.
  • Collaboration - to work alongside the Projects department to ensure delivery of projects with support from the site maintenance team and to liaise with Distilling and Bulk Operations management to resolve issues safely and efficiently.
  • Compliance - to ensure that all Health & Safety, Statutory and Legislative requirements are achieved and adhered to and that best codes of practice are communicated to the team. You will assist with ensuring Safe Systems of Work, company procedures and Risk Assessments are up to date, reviewed, rolled out and signed off in a timely manner.

Who you'll be working with

Internally, you will collaborate with the wider Production team as well as other teams across the organisation, including Health & Safety.

Externally, you will collaborate with contractors, vendors, and suppliers to ensure delivery of services to the highest quality.

Your blend of talent

This position could be right for you if you:

  • Are a time-served experienced technician or have an equivalent qualification or experience in a Mechanical Engineering discipline with a good working knowledge of plant and equipment within a process plant.
  • Have previous experience in a management or supervisory role and can demonstrate the ability to lead, coach, train and develop individuals and teams.
  • Are a strong problem solver and decision-maker.
  • Possess an understanding of Health and Safety issues, IOSH, or equivalent formal training and have experience dealing with legislative bodies including HSE and notified bodies such as Zurich.
  • Know, understand, and can effectively use Asset Management Systems.
  • Can apply analytical techniques to measure and improve performance standards, understand KPIs and contribute to the achievement of departmental and business objectives.
  • Hold a current UK driving licence.
