The incumbent serves as the Transportation Coordinator, responsible for all aspects of the terminal's transportation operations and administrative functions. He/she supervises, direct and coordinate activities, such as making sure that our school buses make it to their destinations in a timely manner, directing bus drivers and assigning duties to employees. Ensuring the Company's transportation safety programs and areas relating to school bus DOT regulations exceed expectations.
The ideal candidate is well-versed in transportation and is a motivated individual with experience in leadership, knowledgeable in DOT to identify problem areas and recommend sound improvements. Able to effectively communicate with internal staff, new hires and transportation professionals in developing techniques to enhance safety and meet DOT safety goals and objectives.
LOCATED IN VERONA, WISCONSIN
The right candidate can expect 50-55 hours per week on average. This position works in a fast-paced environment, which includes daily scheduling and handling multiple routes, drivers, and attendants.
Operating Hours: Overall working hours (shifts) are typically between the hours of 6:00 AM and 5:00 PM, Monday-Friday.
Work with the terminal management team for overall dispatching terminal operations. Assists in daily set-up of the Routing and monitors employee check-in and check-out; confers with Terminal Manager with any concerns or changes. Makes sure that the assigned bus and driver are appropriate according to school routes, charter routes or other school bus service to school districts or other customers. Communicates effectively with school district staff, parents, company management and co-workers on schedule changes/updates and student behavior counseling. Makes telephone or radio calls to assist employees with accident or mechanical bus breakdowns and contacts the police or school districts as needed. Informs appropriate staff and mechanics of bus mechanical or maintenance concerns or emergencies. Follows dispatch procedures and DOT regulations to ensure safe, on-time and consistent service to our customers and the general public. Drives school bus routes/charters or other company vehicle as needed.
Develops and maintains positive working relationships with the school administrators and staff in order to provide quality customer service. This includes route and charter operations, answering the phone and assisting callers as needed, organizing and providing correct DPI information to school districts.
Cooperatively works with all other staff in achieving company goals and objectives by fostering a teamwork environment that focuses energy and creativity of personnel to serve our customers in the best possible manner. Advises drivers and attendants on appropriate behavior and following procedures in dealing with parents, school officials and students.
Accurately enters information into computer in a timely manner to ensure routes and charters are correct, dispatch logs are correct and payroll is accurate. Contacts drivers regarding stop changes when necessary.
Performs dispatch on radio as needed or during assigned time, takes phone calls and assist drivers with problems. identifies resources cover all work (routes, charters and activities) in a safe and timely manner.
Acts professional in attitude and appearance. Maintains a positive attitude and takes a proactive stand toward supporting and meeting company goals. Accepts responsibility of duties assigned and takes initiative to carry out new ideas. Maintains the confidentiality of all appropriate employee and company matters.
Obtains and maintains a CDL with an S & P endorsement. Drives routes and other assignments when required.
Learns and assists in all other areas of terminal as needed. Participates in the weekend/after hours on call management rotation, learns charter systems including charter processing orders, billing, and assigning drivers to charters.
Education minimum High School Diploma required
Experience in management, project management preferred
Experience in transportation management preferred.
Excellent communication skills both oral and written required
An outgoing and friendly communication style
Personal computer skills including experience with Google business software
Ability to learn/use employee tracking software
Valid Driver's License, with the ability to obtain a CDL (company paid program)
Availability to assist in driving when needed
