Position Overview:
The Buyer/Planner is responsible for procuring laboratory supplies, MRO items, raw materials, and other items required for company operation.  The Buyer/Planner will additionally work to develop process improvements and manage costs.  The Buyer/Planner will help various supply chain functions, such as monthly reports, shipping paperwork, cycle counting, and other duties as needed.

Following initial training, the Buyer/Planner is expected to independently perform all routine assignments while following established practices, policies, and procedures per assigned work schedule.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Purchasing Activity
    • Laboratory and office supply orders
    • Order and Source MRO items
    • Plan and order raw material for manufacturing
    • Works with Formulations, Quality Control, and Quality Assurance Departments on the qualification and documentation of new raw materials
    • Negotiate and manage costs with suppliers
    • Responsible for ensuring all materials, PPE, and other consumable items are on hand for manufacturing
    • Review and set safety stock
  • Customer Service
    • Primary contact with client for ongoing commercial products
    • Run and send monthly reports to clients
  • Shipping Activity:
    • Work with Supply Chain Manager to organize finished good client shipments including dates, documentation, and special shipping requests
  • Regulatory:
    • Ensures compliance with SOPs and regulations governing material procurement
    • Update SOP’s as necessary.
  • Follows all CPI safety practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education/Skills/Knowledge Required:
  • Bachelor Degree, Associate Degree, or Certificates preferred; experience may be substituted.
  • Thorough understanding of material flows in a manufacturing environment. 
  • Understanding of purchasing norms.
  • Strong interpersonal communication.
  • Strong computer skills regarding ERP and the Office Suite.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to read, write (legibly), and speak the English language necessary for efficient job performance.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with team members, co-workers, and/or clients.
  • Strong attention to detail.
