Position Overview:

The Assistant Supervisor is responsible for assisting in supervising employees and the productivity, quality, sanitation (cleaning), set-up, and training that occurs on the shift. This includes but is not limited to Facility Operators and Production Operators.  The Assistant Supervisor fills the role of Production Supervisor in the absence of the Production Supervisor.  The Assistant Supervisor can fill the role of Production Operator as needed. The Assistant Supervisor may be assigned to thoroughly review project documentation for accuracy. They will provide technical leadership on the production floor.  They will coordinate the production activities of assigned projects in multiple suites.  They are responsible for critical step observation, coordination of tasks, and timeline management of assigned projects.  The Assistant supervisor utilizes coaching and motivational skills to maintain high standards in a cGMP pharmaceutical manufacturing environment.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Coordinates activities in multiple production suites
  • Leads by example: Promotes and encourages a team-oriented work environment.
  • Provides backup coverage for Production Supervisor
  • Disassembles, cleans, and reassembles coating units and areas.
  • Analyzes production mistakes and recommends corrective actions.
  • Stages materials and/or equipment for processing. Operates forklifts, pallet jacks, drum dollies as necessary.
  • Promotes and encourages a team-oriented work environment. Leads by example.
  • Performs facility inspection corrections as needed.
  • Assists and fills in for the Production Supervisor as needed.
  • Operates equipment in assigned suite (e.g. Wurster Coating, Capsule Filling, etc.)
  • Labels containers with its contents, lot number, weight, etc. Validates label and lot information.
  • Verifies accuracy of critical processing steps performed by other Production employees.
  • Monitors processing conditions and troubleshoots processes.
  • Identifies deviations to processes.
  • Provides technical input for Production Documents in Change Control process.
  • Reviewer approval duties of Production Documents may be designated by Management.
  • Participates in equipment/process validation activities.
  • Mixes coating solutions and other formulas.
  • Maintains accurate records and reviews documentation of other Production employees throughout the shift to ensure accuracy.
  • Reviews executed campaign records.
  • Performs mathematical calculations with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Utilizes personal protective equipment (PPE) when handling hazardous chemicals or other irritants.
  • Follows all CPI cGMP practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education/Skills/Knowledge Required:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associates’ degree or bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant manufacturing experience.
  • Knowledge of current Good Manufacturing Principles (cGMPs) in a FDA-regulated environment preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Practiced leadership skills: ability to coach, train, and influence other employees in the department.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple work assignments and drive tasks to completion with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written communication with clear, legible handwriting.
  • A basic understanding of the purpose and contents within the Safety Data Sheets (SDS’s) preferred.
  • Knowledge of various types of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) available and how/when to use it.
  • Strong mathematical skills and the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and conversions.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions with excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to read, write (legibly), and speak the English language at a level necessary for efficient performance.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with team members, co-workers, and/or clients.
  • Ability to use a half mask positive pressure respirator and other personal protective equipment (PPE) is required.
