Job Description
Summary:
Applies engineering theory, principles, education and applicable technology to design and develop new products and modifications and/or improvements of existing products.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Accomplishes the engineering design, development, modification or adaptation of products in one or more of the following ways, depending on functional assignment:
  • Improves the functional capabilities of existing products
  • Solves functional, applications, or production problems
  • Reduces costs
  • Conceives new features on new or existing product
  • Designs new products
  • Provides technical direction to Designers, Draftspersons and Manufacturing as needed
  • Investigates projects or project parameters as they relate to locations, fit, and feasibility
  • Utilizes Inventor/SolidWorks to ensure proper form, fit and function of design
  • Utilizes FEA software to validate new design and correct problems with existing designs
  • Challenges existing approaches to development, design, application, test or manufacture of product line
  • Develops original or innovative approaches to engineering design, cost reduction and problem solving
  • Regular contact with several levels of employees both inside and outside the organization to obtain factual data where a high level of professional conduct and interpersonal skills are required
  • Provides technical assistance to marketing, sales, and service
  • Travel for field trouble shooting and service when necessary

Education/Experience:
Engineering related degree from a four-year College or University and a minimum of three years of related experience and/or training.
 
Language Ability:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.  Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.  Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.  Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
 
Math Ability:
Ability to apply advance mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.  Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
 
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.  Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.,) in its most difficult phases.  Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
 
Computer Skills:
Internet software, Outlook, Inventor (Preferred) or Solid Works
