Overview

We are looking for a Senior Systems Administrator / DOCSIS Engineer to join our Technology Integration team of individuals dedicated to evaluating, testing, and integrating new technology to the TDS network. They will be primarily focused on DOCSIS/video platforms and solutions that are part of our family of products. These include a mix of Linux and Windows based solutions.

The Senior Systems Administrator works with significant autonomy and independence. They are responsible for system design, development, implementation, testing, and problem resolution. The scope of work includes small system implementations to major system projects. As an experienced systems administrator and a beginning technical leader the position receives regular mentoring, feedback, and supervision by senior team members and management on team leadership skills.

Will be working in a lab environment and systems may include servers (physical and virtual), operating systems, mass storage, commercial packaged software, or open-source software. Systems may be hosted at a TDS owned facility, a third party, or split across multiple facilities.

Responsibilities

    Integrates, implements, tests, and identifies defects on vendor provided software/hardware before being approved for customer consumption.

  • Performs complex maintenance, administration, and capacity planning activities on systems to ensure continued reliability, performance, and security targets are met. Automates system administration activities through scripting tools.

  • Will work on preparing work estimates and project schedules for all technical work for the projects assigned to the position.

  • Leads work teams in resolving complex problems.

  • Maintains expert knowledge on the systems and tools within the scope of the team's responsibility. Maintains expert knowledge of the business processes supported by the systems.

  • Maintains expert-level knowledge of system configuration and administration best practices, tools, and methodologies that are recognized throughout Information Systems.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Associate's degree (or higher) -OR- 2+ years professional work experience.
  • 3+ years systems administration experience.

Other Qualifications

  • Experience with DOCSIS 3.0 and 3.1 networks is required

  • Experience with CMTS platforms such as Arris/CommScope, Cisco and Casa.

  • Knowledge of cable CPE operations, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

  • Knowledge of VOIP protocols such as NCS and SIP

  • Working understanding of HFC architecture.

  • Experience with IP network routing and switching

  • Knowledge of project management methodologies, practices, and tools.

  • Knowledge of system testing practices and tools.

  • Knowledge of problem-solving techniques and tools.

  • Ability to travel as needed for company business and professional development.

  • Ability to work nights and weekends as needed for system implementations and resolving system problems.
