Overview

In the Network Specialist II - Broadband Systems Engineering role, you are required to have the ability to assess Infrastructure (Space, AC/DC Power, Battery, Cooling, Racking, etc.), and determine the optimum solution balancing costs and site priority and resiliency requirements. You will partner with Architecture, OSP, BSE, and other teams to respond rapidly to incoming projects to support network initiatives. You must be knowledgeable about the current state of the TDS network and its capabilities, and must be aware of ongoing efforts to upgrade the network, and have a clear understanding of the facility required to support these programs and products. You must also be capable of creating high level designs and estimating costs quickly, and when necessary, produce detailed Engineering Packages. This position requires demonstrated in-depth to expert level knowledge of AC and DC Power systems, Generators and ATS, Grounding and lighting arresting, DC Battery Plants, Uninterruptable power systems, Air conditioning, Steel superstructure and overhead racking, and space management, and the ability to creatively solve problems within the code and standards that govern them.

Responsibilities
    Provide high level and detailed design and engineering input for all types of projects, including estimated capital costs, and allocations of those costs when needed.
  • Collaboratively prioritize work as needed to handle Expedites and Jeopardy situations in a timely manner.
  • Select and support and manage internal engineering contractors and external engineering vendors.
  • Partner with OSPE to create a seamless Engineering function in the Implementation pipeline.
  • Work with vendors to obtain quotes and issue purchase orders as necessary.
  • Work with Technology Development to update and maintain Standards as necessary.
  • Manage the Engineering process and workflow for continuous improvement; monitor internal customer feedback and conduct internal review sessions to ensure engineering output is consistent and high quality.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (or higher) -OR- 4+ years professional work experience.
  • 4+ years experience in Voice/Data/Video networking.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license, reliable transportation and insurance.

Other Qualifications

  • CATV Headend experience
  • Experience in the following: encoding, combiner plants, cmts management, multicast, Ethernet routing switching and transport
  • Telecom Central Office experience
  • Tier 3-4 Data Center experience
