The Mechanical engineers in the propulsion division research, design, develop, test, certify, deploy and improve cutting edge propulsion technologies in space exploration systems. You'll conceptualize and deliver complex mechanical structures and systems and your technical duties include the design and development of new products and processes throughout the product lifecycle.

SNC's subsidiary, Sierra Space, based in Louisville, Colorado with operations in Madison, Wisconsin and Durham, North Carolina, designs and manufactures advanced spacecraft, satellites, propulsion and environmental systems, spacecraft subsystems and components for the U.S. government (including NASA), commercial customers and international organizations.

This Mechanical Engineer II role is located in Madison, WI and will support the Propulsion Division of Sierra Space. This role will be involved in the development of propulsion systems, primarily liquid-based but may include opportunities to work on hybrid and electric propulsion systems. The work will include the maturation of hardware, such as combustion devices, valves, turbomachinery, and more. New hires will be given opportunities to work on a diverse suite of tasks in order to create, produce and refine hardware. Strong communication skills are required, as this role will work closely with a small team and convey information to a broader, larger program. New hires can expect to make a direct impact in the development of propulsion systems, and can be part of the maturation process from initial concept up to qualification.

Must-haves:

  • Bachelor's of Sciencedegree in Mechanical Engineering or related Engineering discipline and typically 3 or more years of relevant experience

  • Higher education may substitute for relevant experience

  • Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of required education

  • Practical Knowledge of engineering principles and practices

  • Experience with Computer Aided Engineering tools

  • Familiarityworking in multi-disciplinary designand development teams

  • Ready to work with a small team in development of rocket hardware

  • Must be able to work in a highly collaborative, fast paced environment with emphasizes in rapid prototyping, testing, and fielding of capabilities

  • Ability to manage outside vendors

Preferred:

  • Experience applying and interpreting Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5

  • Understandingof Engineering Simulation such as Finite Element structural Analysis (FEA), Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Thermal Analysis

  • Backgroundin the Aerospace and Defense Industry

  • Knowledge of industry-standard mechanical design principles, to include, but not limited to parametric design, model-based definition, material hardware selection, manufacturing, and production processes

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance may be required.

Estimated Salary Range: $69,960.25 - $96,195.35
