Position Overview:

Under the direction of the Strength team Engineering manager, the Mechanical Designer will perform a variety of technical assignments to assist the engineers in charge of expediting the development of products, components, processes, and controls having limited diversification and complexity in the specific field of engineering. This position consists mainly of technical functions in direct support of technician senior or engineer. In addition to the Engineering duties, this individual will consistently work on Document control tasks relating to the creation, maintenance, organization, and improvement of technical related documentation. This is a non-supervisory position.


Responsibilities:


Personnel:

* Work with other members of the product development team to translate customer requirements into engineering product specifications.

* Act as liaison between engineers and other sections or departments

* May work with laboratory personnel on constructing of testing prototypes, accumulating, and compiling test data and reports for analysis and evaluation.


Product Development:

* Investigate, search, compilation, and calculation of supporting technical data using textbooks, handbooks, records, or other established and recognized sources as directed.

* Prepare preliminary drawings or sketches showing proposed specifications, design characteristics, etc. for review and evaluation by engineer in charge.

* Work with laboratory personnel on the construction of prototypes; accumulating, and compiling test data and reports for analysis and evaluation.

* Develop and maintain estimated tooling/cost estimates

* Develop and maintain a structured BOM (Bill of Materials)

* Coordinate with Manufacturing and Purchasing to ensure the product is producible and meets the costing requirements defined in the product specification

* Determine and maximize container utilization and package size

* Meets all project milestones and deadlines


DCC:

* Coordinate efforts with factory teams to update documentation information.

* Proofread, correct, and suggest improvements for Exploded diagrams and service Bills of Materials.

* Assist engineering with new product development as it relates to technical support and documentation

* Assist with NPD project tracking and milestone recording (weekly and monthly)

* Publish Product Plan monthly update (recording information and submitting to team)

* NPD weekly report submission


Marginal Job Functions:

* Other projects as assigned

Requirements


Education:

* Two-year technical degree or the equivalent


Experience:

* At least 3 years of design experience.

* Experience w/ plastic injection molding

* Consumer product design experience


Other Requirements:

* Experienced 3D CAD designer (SolidWorks preferred)

* Word, Excel

* Ability and willingness to travel both internationally and domestically

* Excellent written and verbal communication skills

* Ability to work well with numerous diverse groups and individuals
