Overview

Join a small team of individuals dedicated to the design delivery, operation, and maintenance of deployed storage solutions throughout the TDS ecosystem. This associate will focus primarily on engineering and supporting storage solutions which directly provide service to TDS customers.

As a Systems Engineer, you will work with cutting-edge technologies to develop and support robust applications and platforms in our data center environments throughout the country. You will have an opportunity to:

    Work in a rapidly growing environment with thousands of servers and appliances.
  • Work with various storage technologies from leading vendors like Pure, NetApp and DellEMC.
  • Manage backup infrastructure using Commvault and Netbackup.
  • Work with Infrastructure automation and configuration tools.
  • Work to ensure deployed systems are highly available across multiple data centers.
  • Work with large software development teams to design and deploy custom software solutions.
  • Work with networking teams to make storage and networks work together to facilitate a geographically diverse deployment of services.
  • Help troubleshoot storage and system issues that span applications, systems, firewalls, and other network devices.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation and occasionally be responsible for after-hours maintenance work.
  • Document technical problems, resolutions, and processes for assigned tasks and projects.

Responsibilities
  • Work in a cross-functional team environment preparing project schedules, work estimates, and detailed design documentation. Mentors team members in the development of work plans.
  • Implement project and enhancement requests with a focus on excellence.
  • Develops the processes for the maintenance, administration, and capacity planning activities on systems to ensure continued reliability, performance, and security targets are met. Identifies system activities for automation. Establishes the schedule of maintenance activities for the team to perform.
  • Leads work teams in resolving complex problems which are frequently unique, require creative problem solving and advanced technical skills, and frequently span multiple systems that may cross team boundaries.
  • Maintains authoritative knowledge of all systems within the scope of the team's responsibility. Provides a consultative role to business process owners in the use and modification of systems.
  • Develops and Maintains vendor relationships.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (or higher) -OR- 4+ years' professional work experience
  • 4+ years' systems administration experience

Other Qualifications

  • Experience with one (or more) scripting languages. Python experience is preferred.
  • Experience with Infrastructure automation and configuration tools such as Ansible or Puppet.
  • Strong experience with production SAN and NAS storage environments.
  • Familiar with Fibre Channel SAN concepts and practices.
  • Knowledge of monitoring platforms and applications.
  • Experience and comfort working with Linux and Windows Servers.
  • Experience with Systems Administration (Linux preferred).
  • Knowledge and experience with VMware.
  • Motivation to complete tasks and projects in a precise and organized manner.
  • Knowledge of systems development methodologies, practices, and tools.
  • Knowledge of project management methodologies, practices, and tools.
  • Knowledge of system testing practices and tools.
  • Excellent analytical abilities and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to travel as needed for company business and professional development.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends as needed for system implementations and system problem resolution.
