Sr. Manager, Environmental, Health, Safety & Risk ManagementJob Description:
The Sr. Manager of EHS (Environmental Health Safety) & Risk Management is responsible for supporting the EHS&RM Director and being a liaison between multi-site functions. Core responsibilities will consist of working closely with the site EHS&RM Managers to achieve performance excellence and alignment in EHS programs, practices and security strategies. The Sr. Manager will establish a strong working relationship with the organizational stakeholders and the operational leadership team, driving a safe working culture and providing leadership with necessary support to implement effective EHS&RM programs. Alignment with Corporate EHS&RM to enable the site to effectively identify and mitigate EHS risks. This role will support EHS programs in accordance with federal, provincial, state, local regulations and internal standards to drive continual improvement and an incident free work environment.
This is a remote opportunity with 50% travel.
Roles & Responsibilities:
* Develops, organizes, implement, and evaluate the Risk Management Portfolio / Programs (i.e., workers' compensation and general property and liability insurance)
* Plans, organizes, administers and supervises the Workers' Compensation Program including reviewing of claims, participating in settlement negotiations, recommending loss control strategies, ensuring program conformance to applicable laws and regulations, preparing required reports, and monitoring and evaluating the program activities to align with EHS strategies.
* Manages workers' compensation claims and property and liability claims.
* Reviews, directs, and coordinates efforts to resolve claims in the best interest of parties involved. Reviews and takes appropriate action on claims
* Review, assign and provide supervision of all workers compensation claim activity to ensure compliance, specific handling instructions and in accordance with applicable laws.
* Reserve establishment and/or oversight of reserves for designated claims within established reserve authority levels.
* Creates and develops relationships with claims adjusters, insurers, outside legal counsel and other claims related parties
* Provide education, training and assist in the development of claim management at the site level.
* Analyze loss experience at the location, business unit, and corporate level to identify trends; maintain data communication with Health & Safety and Risk Insurance Department on a timely basis
* Evaluate of risk financing alternatives, adequacy of limits and make recommendations
* Check accuracy of insurance policies, prepare insurance coverage summaries
* Coordinate audits of insurance programs
* Arrange for timely payment of all costs associated with the cost of risk; keep accurate records of risk management expenses, including loss costs
* Prepare annual insurance and risk management budget and cost of risk allocations to business units
* Manage compliance with state regulations for workers compensation in self-insured and monopolistic states
* Analyze cost benefit of various programs and procedures within risk management
* Develop and Implement a Risk Assessment Program to identify potential exposures at the site.
* Lead insurance audits and follow up action items.
* Assist with insurance and risk management due diligence reviews for mergers and acquisitions
* Manage compliance and risk with contractors through use of ISN system.
* Liaison between crisis management and EHS.
* Develop and implement internal auditing system.
* Assess the benefits of inhouse Nurse Case managers
* Liaison with Engineering with a focus on Industrial Hygiene projects
* Provide ongoing risk management support and assistance as needed
Function Support and Communications
* Own the development of and maintenance of EHS & Risk Management communication tools for the purpose of communicating performance, organizational risk potential, best practice sharing, policies and programs changes, etc.
* Partner with Functional EHS&RM Leaders to ensure compliance with environmental, occupational, and health/safety programs related to federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
* Work with the EHS & Risk Management staff and Head of Communications to develop a communication strategy across the organization
* Update the annual EHS & Risk Management Key Requirements Policy
* Support in the development and scheduling of crisis response exercise.
* Coordinate the efforts to update the companies mass notification and crisis management tool.
* Provide expertise in policy and coverage interpretation to operating company personnel
Bachelor's Degree Required - Engineering or Industrial Technology, Environmental, Occupational Health & Safety or related
* Five years within an EHS, risk management environment or insurance company or brokerage experience handling national or global accounts is preferred
* Demonstrated capabilities in the major areas of responsibilities described above
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
* College degree with major in EHS, project management or risk management
* Exceptional written communication skills
* Strong verbal and interpersonal skills
* Self-motivated individual able to work effectively and make sound independent decisions
* Exceeds at supporting multiple positions with minimal supervision
