Company Overview
Although Baycom was originally started in 1954 under the name Electronic Service Company, Baycom marks its anniversary as September 12, 1956-the day its founder, Tom Pohlman signed a service agreement with Motorola.

Prior to starting Baycom, Tom worked as an engineer for WTAQ and WBAY, and it's a source of pride at Baycom that Tom was instrumental in putting Green Bay's first television station on the air. As a second job, Tom was repairing two-way radios in his basement for the Green Bay police department, using the skills he had learned in the US Army during WW II.

Tom's business quickly grew and in 1962, Tom moved the business to our first location on Cass Street in Green Bay, which is now Commercial Auto body Repair. The company was incorporated under the name Bay communications, Inc in 1965.The business continued to grow, and after two additions to the building Baycom moved to our current location in 1982.

At that time, Baycom was still operating exclusively as a Motorola service center. In 1988 Motorola changed its sales structure and began hiring outside distributors. This was a major milestone in our history and more than doubled our staff.

In 1988 and 1993 Baycom opened additional locations in Marinette and Neenah respectively.

In 1992 Dan Pohlman, Tom's son, purchased the business from his father. Dan grew up in the business and started out by mowing lawn, painting and performing janitorial duties around the shop. Dan started installing mobile radios in vehicles while he was still in high school. Dan attended college at Michigan Tech starting in 1968, and earned his degree in electrical engineering in 1972. Dan continued his education, earning an MBA in 1976. Dan successfully ran the business, and was instrumental in identifying diversification opportunities that support our core competency of wireless voice and data communications. Dan sold the business to our current owner and President, Steve Elias, in March of 2007.

Steve Elias, a former Motorola employee, joined Baycom in 1991 as a Senior Account Executive. As current owner and President of Baycom, Steve is aggressively exploring new ideas and is focused on taking our wireless communications technology and digital data transmission expertise to new markets, and in new ways. Steve is a graduate of Gogebic Community College in Ironwood Michigan and Lakeland College in Sheboygan Wisconsin, with degrees in Marketing and Management.
