Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develops and maintains local and regional employer partnerships designed to create hiring opportunities for current MATC students and alumni; completes employer site visits and employer needs assessments to better evaluate and establish job options.
  • Assists employers in the identification and modification of hiring practices that provides easier access to MATC students and fosters affirmative action and equal opportunity commitment.
  • Provides counseling to students, alumni, and special targeted populations in job readiness skills and job strategies.
  • Provides job search coaching for students enabling employment goal setting and achievement.
  • Assists students with resume, cover letter preparation and interviewing techniques.
  • Promotes hiring of special targeted populations by providing assistance to students, graduates, faculty, and employers.
  • Coordinates career forums, job fairs, and employer visits which enable student and employer contact.
  • Designs and facilitates job readiness presentations in classrooms, departments and organizations.
  • Provides student employment, employer relations, and employer personnel services information and assistance to program advisory councils.
  • Updates employment electronic and paper resource information for distribution.
  • Assists with maintaining JOBshop presence at various employers' events.
  • Collaborates with departments to create specific career programming for targeted students.
  • Manages the entire employment cycle of JOBshop student assistants which includes: hire, terminate, supervise, train and schedule.
  • Keeps current on career fields, industries, job market information and incorporates new incentives in job readiness appointments.
  • Serves as resource person on employment development for the district; participates in meetings, committees, seminars, workshops or other professional activities as required.
  • Performs other related duties as required for the efficient operations of the division.
Qualifications

Compliance with all state, federal, and accreditation standards/requirements, as well as all MATC policies and procedures.
Required Education: Bachelor's degree in related field.
Preferred Education: Master's degree in related field.

Required Experience: Three (3) years of career services experience, preferably in an employment and training program; or any equivalent combination of experience and training. Candidate must be fluent in English and Spanish.

Preferred Experience: Prefer more than three (3) years of relevant experience.

Preferred License/Certification: CPR/First Aid Certification.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Knowledge and skill facilitating job readiness workshops.
  • Excellent organizing skills with an ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and a variety of demands including coordination of events with multiple teams.
  • Ability to communicate effectively through both oral and written means while projecting an image of high professionalism.
  • Skilled in resume review and revision and interviewing.
  • Must possess a high caliber of customer service skills in order to establish and maintain effective working relationships with MATC staff, faculty, students, representatives from outside agencies, business community and the general public.
  • Exhibit comfort working with technology based services and social media platforms.
  • Possess high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and promote a positive working environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to create, structure, and deliver public presentations to a variety of groups.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently, and as a team member.
  • Ability to access and disseminate information using computers and proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
  • Ability to adhere to all institutional policies and procedure and operates within state and federal statutes and regulations within standards of professional career services organizations at all times.
  • Ability to possess a valid Wisconsin driver's license, vehicle, and proof of auto insurance to travel to District campuses.
Supplemental Information

Start Date:
The position supports the Career Hub and is available immediately.

Hours:
This is a full-time, limited term employment position working 40 hours per week, funded through June 30, 2025. Funding may be extended for 2025-2026 fiscal year. Hours are typically business hours, however candidates must have the flexibility to work occasional evenings.

Based out of the Milwaukee Downtown campus, 700 W State St, Milwaukee, WI 53233

Hourly Rate:
This is a non-exempt, hourly position. The pay range is listed to the midpoint of the salary range and is based on the 2023/2024 rates and are determined by years of experience credit and internal salary equity.
