Job Description
The School District of Beloit is seeking a School Nurse. This is a full time/permanent position based on a 192 day contract (prorated for 2023-2024). Candidate must hold a Registered Nurse license for the state of WI. Minority and bilingual candidaes are encouraged to apply. Salary offers are based on education/experience.

Job purpose
To advance the well-being, academic success, and life-long achievement of students. The School Nurse facilitates positive student responses to normal development; promotes health and safety; intervenes with actual and potential health concerns; provides case management services; and actively collaborates with others to build student and family capacity for adaptation, self-management, self-advocacy, and learning.

Duties and responsibilities
  1. Work with employees, students, parents, medical personnel and the general public to improve student achievement outcomes.
  2. Responsible for nursing process in assigned buildings.
  3. Surveillance of local trends in illness and disease in order to ensure prevention of outbreaks in the school setting.
  4. Provide nursing services including prescribed medical treatment, procedures, and medication administration for students.
  5. Develop, update, and maintain Individual Health Plans/IEPs/Emergency Health Plans annually for students with chronic and acute health care needs.
  6. Directly and indirectly supervise and monitor the delivery and documentation of delegated nursing tasks/procedures.
  7. Provide vision/hearing screening for students as directed and make referrals for those who failed their vision and/or hearing screening.
  8. Perform informational/educational program(s) on human growth and development, physiology and hygiene, and/or other health related topics.
  9. Support Wisconsin student immunization requirements to improve and maintain a healthy school environment and ensure state reports are completed.
  10. Serve as a case manager or liaison, bringing healthcare providers, families, and school staff together to support the health of our students.
  11. Provide nursing representation on relevant district committees.
  12. Float to different buildings in the district for coverage.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  1. Current Registered Nurse licensure in the State of Wisconsin.
  2. Bachelor Degree in Nursing (or working towards and meets state requirements for School Nurse)
  3. Current CPR/AED certification.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous nursing experience in pediatrics or triaging. MSN Degree Bilingual

Working conditions
The work environment is in a school setting that combines a school health office which includes standard office equipment and standard school health supplies. The job is performed under conditions with exposure to risk of injury and/or illness. Employee may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens.

Physical requirements
Must be able to walk, run, climb stairs and move about the building emergently and as needed. This is a physically demanding job where the incumbent is required to stand and/or sit for extended periods of time, lift heavy objects up to 50 lbs as needed, and do repetitive tasks with few breaks.
