Job Description
Job Summary:

The Department of Medical Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM) invites applications for a Clinical Professor Track, full time, 12-month renewable position. The successful candidate will join 2 other board-certified cardiologists who are responsible for teaching, research, and clinical service on the UW campus. The SVM is a collegial, collaborative environment that offers specialty care with board certified experts in allied services including: large animal internal medicine, small animal internal medicine, neurology, dermatology, emergency and critical care, radiology, radiation and medical oncology, special species, ophthalmology, anesthesia and pain management, and dentistry.

The Cardiology Service has an annual caseload of ~1,250 patients and it is approximately 80% dogs and 20% cats. The Cardiology Service also provides service, on a consultation basis, for horses, farm animals, and exotics. Clinical track candidates will be expected to perform research in a chosen area of interest and UW campus has ample opportunity for collaboration within the SVM, but also with colleagues in the School of Medicine and Public Health, School of Pharmacy, School of Nursing, and School of Biomedical Engineering. UW-Madison considers the SVM to be a major factor in its overall success as a top five university in terms of awarded federal funding. The school is also a major factor in Madison's emergence as a hub of commercial biotechnology, including regenerative medicine technologies.

The UW-Madison Cardiology program has 4 residents and 2.5 nurses/assistants. We will have a brand-new Small Animal Hospital that we will be moving into in March 2024. There will be 3 echo bays with GE and Philips echo machines. We have built a state-of-the-art hybrid cath lab with a Philips Azurion 7 series imaging system, which will provide us the ability to perform routine and complex interventional procedures. The cath lab will also be equipped with EP study capabilities.

Responsibilities:

The primary caseload is outpatient, and there are often cardiac emergencies and inpatients on service. The appointee's role would likely include ~22 weeks of clinics, approximately 4-6 hours of didactic lectures and a significant teaching role in the Health History and Physical Exam laboratory (freshman year) and Veterinary Diagnostics and Therapeutics (junior year) laboratory courses which would likely amount to 12-16 h of teaching. Committee service and research roles would be typical of probationary faculty in the clinical track, with an overall proportionate effort of approximately 40, 25, 25, 10 (clinical service, non-clinical teaching, research, other service). Such an individual would likely seek promotion in academic clinical practice as a primary focus.

The position is offered at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Clinical Professor rank, depending on qualifications and is available once a suitable candidate is identified with a projected start date of June 3, 2024 (this is flexible).
