Job Summary:

Responsible for the supervision of the clinical training of students. This function is used to describe instructional academic staff positions in the health sciences and other academic disciplines with clinical practices. Individuals appointed at the clinical instructor level may have qualifications and training comparable with faculty. Clinical titles must have approval of an academic department. Modified professorial functions have four prefixes or levels: Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and Professor. The specific definition of each level for professorial academic staff titles is left to the purview of each unit in which the title is employed. However, differences between successively higher title levels must reflect demonstrable differences in experience and knowledge gained, applied to the specific duties of the function.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities will include didactic, laboratory and clinical teaching of veterinary medical students, participation in patient care through diagnostic imaging using a variety of modalities including radiography, fluoroscopy, ultrasound, radiology imaging, computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, supervision of residents and continuing education of veterinarians.

Distribution of time for clinical track is expected to be:
* Clinical practice: 40-50%
* Non-clinical Teaching: 15%
* Research: 30-40%
* Service: 5%

22-26 weeks of clinical duty; up to 15-20 lectures; up to 20-30 hours of laboratory.

DVM - Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or equivalent degree.

Qualifications:

Advanced training in radiology/diagnostic imaging is required. Board certified or board eligible in the American College of Veterinary Radiology or European College of Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging is required. Applicants should demonstrate a commitment to develop an academic program that includes Radiology and Diagnostic Imaging

License/Certification:

Required
DVM - Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or equivalent degree. Must be eligible to obtain and maintain licensure to practice veterinary medicine in the State of Wisconsin.

Additional Information:

Current faculty are all Diplomats of the ACVR with two members that maintain additional certification, one in the Radiation Oncology affiliate and the other in the new Equine Diagnostic Imaging affiliate. A standing large animal CT unit, developed at UW-Madison, provides high resolution sedated standing CT images of horses from foot to carpus/tarsus and skulls to C2-3.

SVM is nearing the end of construction on the new facility that will improve instruction space for students, double the size of the school's small animal hospital and significantly enhance the large animal hospital, expand labs for studying naturally occurring animal and human diseases, and increase and modernize infectious disease research space. Future upgrades via remodeling of current hospital include an Imaging Center with large animal-capable 3T MRI, 16-slice CT, and future PET-CT. Completion of the addition is projected for late 2023.
