SUMMARY: Operate the Laminator in the safest, most effective and efficient manner while adhering to established quality standards.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following, as well as other duties as assigned.

  • Participate in training, embrace concepts of and actively practice the STOP Safety Program fundamentals to aid American Packaging Corporation's efforts to achieve a zero-accident rate.
  • Locate material for the present job and upcoming jobs so that the machine may operate efficiently.
  • Troubleshoot laminator issues and maintain proper adhesive weight specifications using ei3 and the Mahlo Gauges.
  • Sign onto and use ei3 to load process conditions onto the machine and enter all of the necessary process data.
  • Properly flag rejects in master rolls accurately for next operation.
  • Perform and manage process condition parameters and records.
  • Monitor pumping systems as outlined to maintain proper mix ratio.
  • Understand and utilize all appropriate SOP's.
  • Ensure adhesives are blended per the specifications.
  • Mount impression/transfer sleeves during changeovers.
  • Read, understand, interpret and utilize all information received from both the job jackets, print spec sheets, m-specs.
  • Perform and manage all necessary cleaning and housekeeping duties including cleaning the laminator, scrubbing all rollers and pumps, changing filters, picking up debris around the machine, end of order clean-up, and in-process machine laminator cleaning.
  • Successfully "power up" the machine.
  • Be able to perform and manage machine set-up's/changeovers by utilizing the information on the job jacket and any necessary equipment. This includes preparing anilox rolls and sleeves for the laminator, changing anilox rolls, etc.
  • Continuously monitor production using the tools supplied and adjust the laminator as required to ensure optimal productivity and quality. Monitor, identify and resolve all defects related to the lamination process.
  • Possess a thorough understanding of quality standards. Act upon any out of spec data obtained during Q.A. tests.
  • Complete necessary quality checks at machine and complete check off paperwork.
  • Understand the bar code system in order to ensure accurate inventory control.
  • Attend and participate in all scheduled meetings (Continuous Quality Improvement, safety, special projects, departmental, etc.).
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures.
  • Business travel required.
  • Any other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Previous experience in APC manufacturing positions or specific industry related printing/laminating/bag making experience
  • Acceptable prior work history

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute percentages and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Anything needing to be lifted that exceeds this poundage should be moved with the help of another individual or by using a mechanical aid. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, distance and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee works near moving mechanical parts and is exposed to fumes or airborne particles (works in an environment where solvent based inks are used). The employee frequently works in high, precarious places, in humid conditions (summer humidity, plant is not air conditioned), and is exposed to electrical shock (only authorized maintenance personnel are allowed access to electrical cabinets).

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Hearing protection is mandated.
