Job Description

The Control Technician 1 is responsible for the fabrication of control panels, field installation and commissioning procedures associated with control panels and field instrumentation, troubleshooting & calibration of field instruments, equipment, and control panels, testing and analysis, documentation and updating drawings of finished control panels. Care of all M.C. Dean, Inc. provided shop tools, meters, and other associated equipment.

Responsible for:

  1. Following verbal instructions and reading instructions such as work orders, diagrams, and wire lists to determine materials needed and sequence of assembly.
  2. Performing sheet metal works, punching holes, wiring, painting, and welding.
  3. Providing on-the-job training to new employees.
  4. Understanding and following Company procedures for ordering, storing, receiving, and returning materials and tools.
  5. Ensuring work is completed as per schedule and quality goals are achieved.
  6. At least two years of experience in a shop environment and minimum of one year of electrical experience required with a high school diploma or GED.


Certifications:

  1. Obtain, at the Company's expense, a CPR and First Aid certification within six (6) months of hire and maintain this certification status while employed by M.C. Dean, Inc.
  2. Pass a background investigation and drug test.


Work Experience:

  1. Knowledge of and ability to interpret control circuits, schematics, and various line diagrams.
  2. Ability to select various control components needed in the fabrication of Control Panels. To read and prepare a BOM (Bill of Materials) from specifications and/or according to NEC and UL508A standards.
  3. Ability to size circuit breakers and fuses for control and power circuits according to specifications and/or NEC standards.
  4. Ability to fabricate control panels including design, layout, and install components.
  5. Ability to install, wire, and test wiring of PLC's, VFD's, and other Solid State control components.
  6. Wire control panels and equipment and test circuitry according to specifications and drawings. Commission and document completed control panel or circuits as necessary.
  7. Knowledge and use multi-function meters and various test equipment necessary to project.
  8. Understanding of various Industrial automation and control schemes.
  9. Able to troubleshoot, replace, install, and relocate industrial control circuits and components within various active industrial manufacturing processes and environments.

  1. Various power tools including drills, saws, punch sets utilizing corded, cordless, and hydraulic methods.
  2. Corded and cordless drills

  5. Fluke 787 Process Meter
  6. Fluke 87 Multimeter or equivalent
  7. Hi-Pot
  8. Meggar
  9. Relay Tester
  10. Resistance Tester
  11. Ground Tester
  12. Oscilloscope
  13. Use of laptop PC's with various manufacturer's software packages to check wiring circuits/controls and test PLC's, VFD's, and other Solid State components.

Abilities:

  1. Lifts at least 100 pounds at one time and 60 pounds for an extended period.
  2. Relocates a 12-foot stepladder without assistance.
  3. Works at various heights up to 60 feet and can climb and maintain balance on scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks, and all types of ladders.
  4. Walks, climbs, lifts, squats, crawls, kneels, pushes, pulls and reaches overhead on a routine and repetitive basis.
  5. Possess good vision (may be corrected vision), the ability to see in color, and the ability to hear and communicate in English.
  6. May use a standard ladder without exceeding the weight limit while carrying tools.
  7. Tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.
  8. Apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.
  9. Combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions (including finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events).
  10. See details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
  11. Listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences
