The Department of Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Wisconsin-Madison invites applications for a non-tenure track, Teaching Faculty position in the Elementary Education program.
This position is housed within the Department of Curriculum & Instruction in the School of Education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the flagship campus of the University of Wisconsin System. The Elementary Education program prepares teachers who can foster engaging and affirming teaching and learning contexts that build on student, family, and community resources for all students, particularly students of color, students from minoritized racial, cultural, linguistic and socioeconomic backgrounds, as well as students with disabilities. Through their preparation, teacher candidates gain awareness of how schools reflect both the strengths and inequities of our multicultural, multilingual society and become more committed to advancing social justice and equity through their classroom practice and community interactions. The program prepares teacher candidates for certifications in one of these options: K-9th grade; K-9 with a minor in Early Childhood Education (ECE); K-9 with a minor in English as a Second Language (ESL); K-9 with minors in both ECE and ESL.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
1. Teach undergraduate courses in the Elementary Education Program as needed (each course counts as 25% of a full workload). In the mathematics education area this would consist of courses focused on pedagogical content knowledge and methods for teaching mathematics.
2. Teach seminar(s) associated with a clinical field component of the elementary education program, as needed (each seminar counts as 25% of a full workload). This entails:
a. Planning and teaching seminars associated with the practicum and student teaching experiences.
b. Supervising and mentoring field supervisors of students in the seminar.
c. Tracking teacher candidates performance and progress and supporting them in completing their teacher education final performance assessment.
3. Supervise teacher candidates in their field placements as needed (supervising 6-7 teacher candidates (or 4-5 student teachers) would count as 25% of a full workload).
4. Attend meetings and serve on committees related to the elementary education program as needed (this counts as 25% of a full workload). Examples of such work include collaborating with the Teacher Education Center to recruit and support cooperating teachers, participating in Elementary Education program design meetings and collaborating with faculty on continuous program improvement.
- 10% Works with faculty to identify and develop new methods of advancing instruction in the discipline
- 15% Assesses learner performance and prepares reports recommending instructional improvements
- 15% Develops teaching techniques that enhance course effectiveness in alignment with desired outcomes and established strategy and may train other staff in use of these techniques
- 25% Provides classroom, online and/or laboratory instruction, including grading
- 10% Supervises the day-to-day activities of work unit employees involved in instructional support as needed
- 5% Assists in development of grant proposals for funding of model instruction programs
- 15% Assists in defining the objectives of the program and plays a major role in carrying out program duties
- 5% May make presentations to faculty and to staff members on instructional programs and techniques

Required
Master's Degree
Candidates must have a minimum of a Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction or Teacher Education, with a preference for candidates with a PhD (or ABD) in Mathematics Education.
Candidates must have a minimum of three years of experience teaching in a PK-9 setting, with a preference for experience teaching mathematics (either alongside other subjects or on its own).
Candidates must have excellent interpersonal, teamwork, written and oral communication skills, and an exceptional record of classroom instruction.
Candidates must have demonstrated commitments to social justice, equity, inclusion, diversity, asset-based perspectives, and evidence-based teaching practices.
Preference: It is desirable for candidates to have experience and expertise in teacher education at the university level, teacher coaching, mentoring, or professional learning (supervising clinical placements and/or developing school/community/university partnerships).
Full Time: 100%
This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.
