Job Summary

Involves the coordination of the materials management system throughout the medical center or health system, about procurement, processing, and distribution of materials and services. Ensures the efficient and cost-effective acquisition of equipment and supplies throughout the medical center or health system.

Department Description

This position will coordinate with the operating room leadership to ensure that all necessary instrumentation and equipment are in an appropriate condition for safe, effective use. They will also work in conjunction with loaner coordinators, vendors, and OR personnel to ensure sufficient backup instrumentation and equipment are available for the replacement of missing, damaged, or broken beyond-repair items without patient care service interruption. The Incumbent troubleshoots equipment, instruments, and customer issues. Incumbent interfaces with OR, ancillary departments, and outside companies.

Participates in performance improvement planning and implementation. Demonstrates excellent communication skills and works closely with management, SPD educator, and SPD quality coordinator to implement change management and staff development opportunities. This position requires the flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.

Required Qualifications

  • Thorough knowledge of SPD instrument management policies, regulatory requirements, and safety regulations.
  • Strong communication skills; including active listening, critical thinking, oral, and in writing.
  • Strong interpersonal skills. Actively cooperates and supports the work of others. Ability to work productively with staff across departments and of all levels.
  • Productive in work volume, speed, quality, and consistency. Ability to manage multiple priorities, track all instruments, and complete projects.
  • Ability to perform all commonly applicable functions in the Microsoft Suite. Effectively uses organization's automated materials management systems.
  • Thorough knowledge of data management and documentation methods used in materials management and SPD Microsystems.
  • A minimum of 4 years of previous Sterile Processing technician experience
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities
  • Ability to operate sterile processing equipment.
  • Detailed knowledge of medical terminology, departmental policies and procedures, and regulatory standards, and leading industry practices.
  • Knowledge of universal precautions for safety and prevention of cross-contamination
  • Detailed knowledge of sterilization and cleaning equipment
  • The ability to safely move heavy trays and equipment, lift to up 50 pounds, and stand for prolonged periods.
  • Knowledge in all aspects of SPD, assembly (all services), decontamination, Case carts, sterilization
  • The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience /training.
  • Associate degree or equivalent blend of education and work experience.

License/Certification

  • Maintain current certification as a Sterile Processing Technician through an accredited organization (CRCST- Certified Registered Central Service Tech, IAHCSMM, or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician CBSPD -).
