Job Summary:

University Housing is looking for an experienced Maintenance Supervisor to join our mechanical maintenance team!

This position leads mission-critical maintenance and repair operations in housing and dining facilities on the UW-Madison campus. This includes managing the daily operations of the mechanical maintenance program and directly supervising a team of internal career staff, student staff, and contractors throughout University Housing Facilities.

Responsibilities: Develops maintenance standards, coordinates maintenance and remodeling projects, monitors project plans, inspects work, and supervises personnel to ensure compliance with project timeline, plans, and safety regulations.
  • 25% Develops, directs, executes, and monitors operational work plans for a designated unit or affiliated projects to ensure compliance with plan regulations and timelines
  • 30% Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees
  • 10% Monitors the work unit or project budget and approves expenditures
  • 5% Serves as the unit liaison to internal stakeholder groups providing organizational information to align project objectives with overall strategic plans and initiatives
  • 10% Identifies, proposes, and implements new or revised unit operational plans and quality assurance programs to ensure compliance with general construction and maintenance practices
  • 5% Oversees the required inspection of life safety equipment, responds to life safety equipment needs and organizes fire drill evacuations
  • 10% Researches, sources, orders, receives, and distributes parts, materials, supplies, tools, and safety equipment to support staff needs
  • 5% Engages in direct customer service to residents and parents regarding environmental issues affecting quality of life in residence halls, including temperature, humidity and other issues
Tasks:
  • Coordinates and oversees the work of vendors, outside contractors, and other University staff and student workers in residence halls and dining facilities
  • Demonstrates and role models exceptional customer service; communicates with residents and staff to address service requests
  • Creates, promotes, and participates in a collaborative team environment
  • Evaluates skills and knowledge of staff as required to perform necessary repair and maintenance work in their units
  • Manages facilities records and databases
  • Processes all relevant paperwork, purchase orders, and credit card statements per campus purchasing policies
  • Provides after hours, weekend, and holiday on-call coverage
  • Provides follow up corrections and repair oversight resulting from safety inspections
  • Provides support and assists as needed in the implementation of plans and procedures in the event of an emergency
  • Represents University Housing on issues involving campus, state, and city partners

Education:

Preferred
Associate's Degree or higher in industrial maintenance, construction management, or related field.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:
- Five (5) years of combined trades maintenance experience with at least three (3) years supervising technical staff within commercial, industrial, healthcare, or similar settings

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience conducting a building needs assessment, asset life cycle planning, procurement, operations, or preventative maintenance setup.
- Advanced knowledge of a variety of building science concepts.

License/Certification:

Preferred
Drivers License - Valid and Meets UW Risk Management Standards

Required
EPA Refrigerant Handling Certification
Current certification or the ability to obtain within twelve (12) months

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Depending on Qualifications
This is a full-time appointment. The starting annual salary is $86,320 or higher based on qualifications and includes a competitive retirement and benefits package.

Additional Information:

Typical hours are within 7:00am - 5:00pm, Monday through Friday. Schedule alterations as operations and position expectations demand. This position participates in a rotating schedule to provide afterhours, weekend, and holiday on-call/on-site coverage, as needed.
