International Fragrances & Flavors Inc (IFF) is looking for a Process Engineer for our Madison, Wisconsin Health & Bioscience site. The Engineer will work as a key team member in the Manufacturing Technology organization in Madison supporting production operations, continuous improvement, Process Safety Management (PSM) and capital projects.

NATURE OF WORK:


A successful candidate will provide process improvement and troubleshooting support to the H&B plant in Madison and will also participate in and/or lead numerous divisional projects with local and global scope. The position is instrumental in analyzing process information, developing conceptual improvements and designing and carrying out experiments needed to make decisions and driving them from conceptual phase to the implementation of those improvements. In addition, this role will include working with the manufacturing staff and vendors to specify process equipment for capital plans and providing engineering support for capital improvement projects.

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

  • Proactively identify, troubleshoot and resolve issues to support and improve efficiency and safety of the Madison manufacturing operation.
  • Build proficiency in plant Automation and Processs Control systems
  • Participate in PSM Process and lead ownership of PSM element(s)
  • Report monthly KPI metrics for the Manufacturing Technology (MT) group for ongoing projects.
  • Participate in capital investment projects as a Technology team member
  • Monitor process performance in the facility.
  • Design and execute experiments to improve process performance.
  • Support new product and technology introductions to the plant.
  • Execute detailed projects covering technical aspects of manufacturing.
  • Monitor and report on process performance trends, product cost and operational logistics.
  • Conduct cost, material and efficiency studies and learning/understanding the impact to the business.
  • Lead project teams, where appropriate.
  • Lead all process documentation updates for industrialized processes including, but not limited to batch sheets, training documents, SOPs, etc.
  • Design and develop operations protocols, processing equipment installations and plant upgrades.
  • Develop technical assumptions and ongoing analysis of cost and performance.
  • Act in compliance with all company policies including, but not limited to: Quality, Safety, Food Safety, Environmental, GMPs, Dietary Supplements, and HACCP-HARPC
  • Responsible for adherence to all quality systems including: ISO 22000 Food Safety and NSF Dietary Supplements with an understanding of IFF Corporate Quality policies and procedures.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • BS degree in Bio-process, Bio-chemical, Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial (or related) engineering with at least 2 years work experience in the field.
  • Skilled in the use of statistical analysis and proficient in the use of spreadsheets and databases.
  • Must have process design expertise, e.g. calculation of material and energy balances, equipment specification, facility layout design.
  • Automation and Process Control experience is highly desired
  • Applied working knowledge of fermentation and downstream processing technology. Experience with Lactic acid bacteria and Anaerobics a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills both verbal and written.

WORK CONDITIONS:

  • Ability to travel 10% of the time.
  • Limited handling of hazardous materials such as liquid nitrogen, strong acids and strong bases.
  • Continuous standing for up to 8 hours a day may exist on a limited basis (non-routine)
