Job Description
Job Summary:

The Cardiovascular Research Center (CVRC) brings together researchers, physicians and educators to focus on ways to prevent and treat cardiac problems through basic research, clinical investigation, diagnosis, treatment, and public education. The Scientist II will perform experiments to determine the mechanisms that trigger calcium-dependent arrhythmias. Specifically, the incumbent will functionally characterize transgenic animals that harbor genetic mutations that trigger arrhythmogenic syndromes in humans. This position joins the Valdivia Lab.

Responsibilities: Identifies research problems, designs research methodologies, performs research, and prepares and/or presents results for presentation to professional organizations or for scholarly publications to help advance research.
  • 30% Identifies research problems and develops complex research methodologies and procedures
  • 30% Collects and analyzes complex research data, conducts experiments and interviews, and documents results according to established policies and procedures under general supervision
  • 10% Conducts literature reviews, prepares reports and materials, and disseminates information to appropriate entities
  • 5% Attends and assists with the facilitation of scholarly events and presentations in support of continued professional development and the dissemination of research information
  • 10% Writes or assists in developing grant applications and proposals to secure research funding
  • 10% May supervise the day-to-day activities of a research unit as needed
  • 5% Serves as a unit subject matter expert and liaison to internal and external stakeholders providing advanced level information and representing the interests of a specialized research area

Education:

Required
PhD, preferably in the biological sciences, healthcare or related field.

Qualifications:

Expertise in mass spectrometry, biochemical, and gene-manipulating and expression techniques is required.

Preferred candidates will also have expertise in pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics for development of peptide drug leads and experience publishing and/or presenting data.

Work Type:

Full or Part Time: 50% - 100%

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

Salary:

Minimum $70,000 ANNUAL (12 months)

The starting salary for the position is $70,000 but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.
