Overview

Join a vibrant, dynamic, and collaborative legal team to advance the mission of MercyHealth and community - to provide exceptional health services with a passion for making lives better. This position will provide excellent legal advice and corporate transactional support to MercyHealth and the Head of Legal as relates to transactional matters, contracts, and corporate services. This position will be a key legal and business partner for the organization on non-clinical and, eventually, clinical transactional matters. Position is open to remote and hybrid opportunities.
Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts and other legal documents;
  • Collaborate closely with the Head of Legal and operational leaders (including Supply Chain and IT) in structuring, negotiating, and providing legal advice for business transactions;
  • Perform research necessary to draft and analyze various contracts, policies, and other documents;
  • Perform risk analysis of contractual documents for business consideration;
  • In collaboration with Corporate Compliance staff, develop compliance policies and procedures and other documents;
  • Assist in promoting efficiency of the legal department by preparing and updating templates, forms, outlines, instructional materials, and other tools and resources; Monitor trends, best practices, and regulatory changes to determine necessary updates to these documents and mitigate risk;
  • Develop and conduct in-house presentations for training or professional development;
  • Maintain open and trusting relationship with VP and senior level business leaders to maintain proactive use of legal counsel in support of organizational risk tolerances and strategic goals;

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

  • Graduation from an accredited law school required.
  • At least basic knowledge of healthcare legal matters including federal and state laws, regulations and rules that govern hospital and healthcare system accreditation, certification and business practice.
  • At least basic knowledge in legal aspects of contract and agreement negotiations, practice and structure.
  • 4+ years of general corporate transactional experience; preference for experience with IT, supply chain, consulting, mergers and acquisitions. Health care payer contracting an additional plus
  • Experience with healthcare clients and/or antitrust and tax exemption preferred
  • Admitted to practice, or ability to become admitted as in-house counsel, in Wisconsin and/or Illinois

CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE

  • Licensed to practice law in the State of Wisconsin and/or Illinois

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Passing the Driver's License Check and/or Credit Check (for those positions requiring).

Passing the WI Caregiver Background Check and/or IL Health Care Workers Background Check.

Must be able to follow written/oral instructions.
