SSA Marine is seeking a Tax Accountant to join our federal Tax team. The position will be responsible for the preparation and filing of U.S. tax filings including but not limited to Federal and state income tax filings, property tax filings, indirect tax filings, business licenses, unclaimed property tax filings, income tax provisions, audit proceedings, income tax research, and other special projects that may arise.

  • Preparation of various domestic federal and state income/franchise tax returns, as well as international returns.
  • Assist the domestic and state & local tax team with tax research, planning and compliance activities, as needed.
  • Ensure sales and use tax returns and payments are calculated, prepared, scanned and tracked in an efficient manner.
  • Respond to taxability questions from internal departments, customers, and vendors.
  • Maintain tax calendar and manage exemption certificate process.
  • Research and advise the tax team on taxability of transactions, nexus issues, and implication of new tax laws.
  • Assist the tax department in responding to various tax authorities' requests.
  • Prepare annual property tax renditions and file returns with the county assessors.
  • Review and approve property tax assessments, process, and pay property tax bills.
  • Assist in audit and appeals request from various taxing
  • Participate in financial statement reporting, including assisting in the tax provision
  • Partner with business teams to establish processes and facilitate continuous process improvement.
  • Participate in planning domestic and international structures and transactions to minimize worldwide
  • Ensure appropriate documentation and internal controls are maintained.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Taxation or equivalent required; Advanced degree or Certification as a CPA preferred.
  • Minimum two years of relevant experience in Industry and/or Public Accounting
  • Excellent organization and data-management skills and detail-oriented.
  • Strong inter-personal and communications skills.
  • Ability to handle workload and competing priorities independently.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage assignments based on their due dates.
  • Motivated self-starter and work with urgency.
  • Technically proficient and have strong accounting, analytical, and research skills.
  • Strong technology skills including MS Office Suite, specifically Excel, and ability to learn tax preparation software.

Supervisory Responsibilities: No

Work Environment:

  • Office environment; exposure to computer screens.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Required hybrid work schedule, at least 3 days/week in office.
