IGM Lab Manager - Stottmann

Overview

This position is initially going to be a hybrid of bench science and lab administration. The position will be approximately 50% lab based and performing experiments in general support of the lab research goals, likely assisting multiple members of the lab. The position will also be responsible for directing the day-to-day management of the Stottmann Lab. They are responsible for assisting the PI and Stottmann lab members in the implementation and performance of translational research. They are responsible for resource and protocol management of the research unit. This position will interact closely with the PI and assist in regulatory compliance of clinical and laboratory studies. This position works with investigators and lab staff to implement and maintain best research practices, manage funding, foster efficient and productive relationships with other groups, and interface with multiple NCH/RI departments/cores to coordinate efficient research efforts. As the candidate grows into the role and becomes fully integrated into the lab, the balance of duties may shift towards more full time experimentation or administration, pending fit of the candidate.

Responsibilities

    Manages human, animal and physical resources associated with the research unit
  • Responsible for ensuring that the unit is IRB, IBC and IACUC compliant; maintains, updates, and implements guidelines and procedures; (directs and conducts training of all staff).
  • Oversees regulatory processes for research staff.
  • Responsible for maintaining overall laboratory organization and best practices.
  • Responsible for basic training of new staff members.
  • Responsible to for carrying out portions of research studies in close collaboration with the PI.
  • May be responsible for management of animal (mouse) colony in close collaboration with the PI.
  • Familiarity with most basic molecular biology techniques including but not limited to: DNA/RNA/protein purification from tissues and cells; PCR genotyping; western immunoblotting; immunohistochemistry; RNA in situ hybridization; cell culture and transfection. Genomic analysis and confocal microscopy capabilities are desirable, but optional, skills.
Qualifications

Knowledge,Skills & Abilities:

  • Bachelor's degree in biological sciences, or related field ,required ; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; Master's Degree preferred.

  • Initiation, motivation, creativity
  • 'Strong writing, training and presentation skills
  • Working knowledge of word processing and data management software.
