Enbridge Gas Ohio is seeking a Senior Counsel with extensive experience in providing comprehensive litigation, regulatory and commercial legal support. The Senior Counsel role will focus on managing and resolving disputes and litigation matters for the East Ohio Gas Company, advising internal clients on sound legal and risk analyses for such matters, and ensuring alignment with Enbridge's business objectives and appropriate liability and risk.

Here's what you will do:

  • Provide legal advice and litigation legal support to the East Ohio Gas Company and as required, other Enbridge Gas Distribution & Storage (GDS) businesses. Counsel internal clients expertly and reliably.

  • Litigate cases, advise on pre-litigation disputes, and manage internal and external legal resources for these matters.

  • May manage paraprofessionals and may train or supervise less experienced lawyers or claims professionals.

  • Direct, monitor and coordinate outside counsel and internal resources who provide legal services.

  • Draft, review and negotiate legal documents such as contracts, pleadings, briefs, draft order licenses, easements, leases, sales and service agreements, copyright and trademark registrations, public permits and other public-way applications, and documents with legal implications.

  • Review and draft responses to union RFI's (Requests for Information) and respond to other union communications received by Labor Relations from time to time.

  • Counsel and advise clients on legal, regulatory, and local external affairs matters, and develop strategies within overall business plan context.

  • Monitor applicable local, state, and federal legislative and regulatory actions, court decisions and company business practices, and advise clients concerning relevant developments.

  • Provide clients with legal and risk analyses, recommended courses of action and financial reporting, as required.

  • Duties may also include responding to interrogatories, hiring outside experts, coordinating company experts, preparing witnessed for depositions and trial, or overall responsibility for developing strategy for trial or settlement.

Who you are:

You have:

  • A Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school and are licensed to practice law in [OHIO (or other states that are acceptable).

  • A minimum of 8 years of direct related experience.

  • Experience in tort and commercial litigation.

  • Experience with, and knowledge of, state public utility laws, regulations, issues, interaction with local authorities, and other legal matters related to the public utility and energy industry.

  • Detailed knowledge of strategic business values and objectives.

  • Independent judgement, and initiative, and ability to work directly with clients.

  • A good analyst, advocate, and presenter of legal points.

  • Exhibit good people skills, basic business sense, and awareness of the industry.

Working Conditions:

  • Typical office work environment.

  • Travel up to 25%.

Physical Requirements include but are not limited to:

Grasping, kneeling, light - moderate lifting (objects up to 20 pounds), reaching above shoulder, repetitive motion, typing, sitting, standing, visual requirement (able to see screens, detect color coding, read fine print), hearing requirement and the ability to sit at a computer for long periods of time.
