Responsibilities

For 40 years, SVB has helped innovators and their investors move bold ideas forward fast. Today, we provide a range of banking services to companies of all sizes in innovation centers around the world. We are proud that the majority of funds and venture-backed companies globally are clients of SVB.

SVB Startup Banking is focused on building deep and authentic relationships with early-stage startup founders (pre-Series A), investors, and ecosystem partners to improve their probability of success.

Our New England team is curious, bright, and diverse in professional and personal background, made up of former founders and operators at early and growth stage startups, VCs, and everywhere in between. Our ideal teammate will have hustle - creating unique solutions to help our founders succeed and have the best banking experience possible. We are passionate about the New England innovation ecosystem and our focus is on creating founder success.

The Portfolio Management Associate role supports the team by addressing and solving client needs, generating portfolio performance, and supporting the overall New England Startup Banking team.

  • Manage day-to-day operations of client requests. A major function of this role is to provide support to the New England Startup Banking portfolio, including handling phone requests, email communication, and acting as our clients' liaison to the rest of the bank
  • Work cross-functionally with a variety of teams within SVB. You will collaborate with teammates across the bank and work closely with our Startup Banking Support Team
  • Facilitate new client onboarding journey though client outreach, client onboarding, portfolio management, credit/regulatory tracking and identifying cross-sell opportunities
  • Monitor and track portfolio health related to compliance and credit risk
  • Maintain a deep understanding of SVB's products and anticipate clients' needs for these products (e.g., credit cards, letters of credit, foreign exchange, treasury management and private banking)
  • Assist VPs on new business development opportunities and strategic initiatives. A successful candidate will engage in staying up to date on technology and startup trends, having familiarity with platforms like Pitchbook, Crunchbase and other resources
  • Perform sales calls and in-person prospect meetings, screening prospects to evaluate quality and fit, while articulating SVB's value proposition
  • Develop strong relationships within the early-stage startup ecosystem, including founders, accelerators, incubators, universities, tech labs and industry groups
  • Collaborate with the team on programming, events, and content to meet in-market goals and support client base

While working with the top early-stage startups, you will gain a deep understanding of SVB's platform, products & services, while also developing your own personal thesis on the ecosystem and unique ways to support growing founders in an entrepreneurial environment.
